Social Media

When dealing with technology its not easy picking one thing to focus on. There are a lot of elements

to consider such as type of people, cultures, enviornment, etc. I found the Social Media area to be

interesting. Being able to connect with people while sitting miles apart is awesome. The internet

opens the door to so many sites that allows you to stay connected with family and friends. It also

allow you to advertise your skills to future employers or play your favorite game. Being able to view

the world with just a keystroke is unique. But beware as many good things the Internet provide us

with, there is also a down side. When using this new technology be cautious because everyone on the

net is not tryna be your friend. You have hackers, perves, and stalkers. All in all we have access to so

many tools lets utilize the skills we have learn are learning to continue to grow in a positive way.

What is the Internet, really?...by Andrew Blum

Have you ever wonder what is the Internet? How does it exist? Well in this discussion Andrew Blum talked about what the Internet really is. His argument was, what was the Internet made of. His discussion was very informative. Mr. Blum talked in detail about the different cables, cords, and wires used to connect the Internet across the world. He used several pictures that showed the workers working and various locations of the cables. I gain alot of information from watching his presentation. Mr. Blum used slight humor, some referring to a squirrel that chewed his Internet cord causing it to go out. So if you ever wondered, like I have, on how the Internet is connected this is a great video to watch.

Organizations and How They Use Social Media

The American Red Cross is an organization that provides multiple services to people across the world. They provide disaster relief, support military families, health/safety training and education, life saving blood and blood drives along with international services. The use of Facebook and Twitter allows them to connect with people when disasters occurs and to promote events taking place. People around the world relies on he Red Cross when a tragedy or disaster is taking place. By having varies locations makes it easier for them provide help and manage the relationships form during tragic times. Usage of volunteers are as needed.
When disaster and emergencies occurs, Salvation Army is another support team of services that respond. Salvation Army is very similar to American Red Cross. They provides a wide range of services including heath services, family tracing, rehab programs and of course their famous Toy Drive for Tots. They as well uses social media like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube to engage with communities and families. By posting events, pics, and missions helps them stay active and informed on the needs of the those who seek out their services. It's quite simple when a disaster or emergency occurs, there are two organizations that you can depend on and are The American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
